Today, Alpha Technologies Inc. proudly announced they successfully renewed their ISO 9001:2015 standard certification renewal.
Alpha Technologies of South Charleston recently demonstrated that an entrepreneurial attitude works even during pandemic outbreaks. Their project to expand broadband in West Virginia had successfully come to fruition.
Alpha’s power products provide reliable power solutions that maximize power availability and connectivity in telecom networks such as FTTH, DSL, or other telecom applications. Built for maximum reliability and efficiency, they support advanced service delivery models, revenue opportunities, and network expansion plans – including service delivery agreements, revenue opportunities, and network expansions. Alpha offers power distribution equipment, surge suppressors, enclosures, battery communication gateways, construction maintenance services, network monitoring software, and energy consulting.
Key to network operability is having a backup power system capable of meeting the requirements of critical facilities. Alpha’s battery backup subsystem powers Loma Linda, California’s Civic Center NOC that provides communications utility services as well as intermediate distribution frames (IDFs) located at each new residential development that connects to fiber broadband internet service and allow residents to make 911 calls or access other online services during a power outage.
The Cordex HP LPS36 DC to DC upconverter can be conveniently placed within the CO or in an OSP cabinet to power ONTs in FTTH networks. Featuring modular, high-efficiency quad output converter modules and an intelligent controller for fast installation and eliminating AC or battery backup power requirements at remote sites, thereby decreasing truck rolls and operational costs.
For an extra robust approach, the new SR-12190 DC to DC down converter enables +-190 VDC from CO or RT power systems to be transformed to 12 VDC for ONT use. Perfect for outdoor environments and self-enclosed for compact storage space requirements, it can be mounted directly to poles or handholes to reduce space requirements while being easily scaled for multiple ONTs in remote cabinets.
As broadband internet usage rises, operators must ensure their infrastructure runs seamlessly, even during power outages or other challenges. That is why they rely on Alpha’s line power solutions to keep their network operational no matter the circumstances.
OSP installations can be divided into four categories – underground, direct buried, aerial, and submarine (or underwater) and each requires different procedures, tools, and cables. Most direct buried and aerial installations will use splice closures; single mode cables typically use short pigtails, while multimode uses breakout kits that encase individual fibers within tubes rugged enough for direct termination. Both will need careful marking within their splice closure so splicers can quickly identify individual threads when repairs or maintenance is required.
Once the cable has been spliced or terminated, it can be connected to equipment within facilities. This equipment could be found anywhere within an existing building, closet, or even ground-based. OSP contractors often install a vault or pedestal where OSP cables will be stored before being terminated for installation purposes.
The alpha cabinet product line provides an assortment of cabinets designed to support various OSP power applications ranging from a small cell to DAS, broadband CATV and more. Agency-certified outdoor cabinets feature temperature controls that help maintain optimal operating temperatures for equipment mounted within them. In addition, adjustable components such as moveable equipment mounting racks, various equipment rail types, and cable entry ports can all help meet installation needs more precisely.
Fiber to the Home, or FTTH, delivers internet speeds of up to 1,000 megabits per second – far outpacing cable or copper-based DSL download speeds and providing lower latency times that simplify streaming videos and gaming.
FTTH lines connect directly to the global internet, unlike ADSL or VDSL, which utilize copper wires. This enables symmetric data transmission for high-speed applications like online gaming and cloud computing.
FTTH technology also boasts higher capacity and more stable signals than DSL technologies, making it widely considered the superior option for broadband access.
However, FTTH implementation can be expensive; the costs associated with running optical fiber cables directly into homes may be prohibitive in smaller communities. As an interim step towards FTTH implementation, some operators have begun adopting FTTN services instead.
Under FTTN, telecom providers extend an optical fiber from their central office or network hub to a street cabinet near a tower or residential area, where it then travels through an optical Line Terminal (OLT) located within its basement to individual homes.
OLT connects to an ONU, or Optical Network Unit, which distributes broadband data and television signals directly to individual subscribers via their ONT port. To ensure customers have the best experience with their connection and experience, both ONT and ONU need to function optimally, and the Promptlink CPE ATLAS FTTH test system provides one tester which tests both ONT and ONU to guarantee full functionality and ensures the fastest Internet connections possible.
Longer term, access networks will move towards fiber to the home (FTTH). The passive optical network (PON) standard uses a point-to-multipoint architecture with one optical fiber delivering Ethernet to end-users via optical splitters; two typical PON technologies include Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) and Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON). Alpha Fiber Access Enclosure Series was created with this in mind and features separate compartments. Only active components require cooling; additionally, it uses DC-powered cooling, eliminating the need for an inverter and additional heat load.
Technology advances bring with them a need to store, process and transmit more data at an ever-increasing rate – known as “Big Data,” this can help improve customer experiences, create new products/services, or guard against threats more effectively.
To fulfill their purpose, data centers must be fast, reliable, and secure – while being cost-effective enough to accommodate an ever-increasing volume of information. HellermannTyton offers data center cable and wire designed to meet this requirement, as well as power subsystems, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), backup generators, ventilation systems, and security equipment that will ensure they can run optimally. Our solutions encompass power-over-Ethernet (PoE) cables, high-capacity backhaul, and fiber optic networking. In addition, we offer power cabinets, DC power systems, and rectifiers that help ensure data centers run efficiently and reliably. Furthermore, our innovations in connectors and wiring allow for improved energy efficiency of network performance while decreasing power consumption.
Alpha can assist agencies in modernizing their data center with expert staff and cutting-edge technologies, offering one of the industry’s largest all-flash storage portfolios with flexible software-defined solutions that allow agencies to improve performance, scale with ease, and cut costs more efficiently.
Alpha offers IT service expertise to businesses and government agencies alike, from security and maintenance of systems, broadband connectivity, Alpha-Voice services, and data backup and storage to system security and maintenance – our IT team always operates with professionalism and integrity.
Cloud computing allows your organization to expand your needs as you go. Our Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), or Software as a Service options provide increased agility and control while decreasing IT operations and maintenance costs.
Connectivity has become ever more crucial to global economies, prompting many states to offer tax breaks and incentives to data center operators. Data centers can bring considerable economic benefits by creating jobs during construction and acting as magnets for other businesses looking to locate nearby.
