The Best Sweet Shops in Houston

2

If you have a severe sweet tooth, there are several great places to indulge your cravings. There’s something for everyone, from cupcakes to ice cream, pies, and more.

Cookies are their specialty but they also serve savory items like cornbread and sausage muffins and sage, brown butter, and honeycomb biscuits. They’re also known for their weekend specials, which are challah and two varieties of babka.

Moeller’s Bakery

Before the trendy Houston bakeries that tout jewel-toned macarons and large croissants, there was Moeller’s Bakery. It’s been in the family since 1930 when brothers Gus and Raymond Moeller started a small bakery on Almeda Road.

Today, it’s run by Eric Moeller and his family. You can still find the same original recipes that Gus crafted back in 1930, and they’re baked daily in a pre-World War II oven.

Plenty of seasonal specialties exist, including king cakes and Mardi Gras cookies during festivals and gingerbread houses at Christmas. But Moeller’s is known for their signature petit fours and custom cakes.

Moeller’s is the place to go if you’re a cake fanatic. They have many flavors and designs, so you’ll surely find something that matches your taste.

The Baker’s Man

Whether you’re craving a cupcake or a slice of pie, Houston has plenty of sweet shops to satisfy your sugar fix.

The Baker’s Man is a small bakery located in Midtown. The shop is open seven days a week and serves homemade goodies, including peach cobbler, banana pudding, and sweet potato pies.

In addition to baked goods, The Baker’s Man also offers sandwiches, salads, and drinks. Their motto is “there’s goodness in every bite,” and their products will not disappoint.

Tasos Katsaounis, the owner of The Baker’s Man, started his company only six months ago, and it’s already increasing. Now, shoppers at Whole Foods Market Montrose, Kirby, Bellaire, and Post Oak locations can purchase seven types of bread from his company. The selections include Kalamata Olive Oregano, Kamut Sesame Sour, Country Sourdough, Focaccia, Cranberry Walnut, and Ciabatta. All of these are made using fresh local ingredients. The Baker’s Man also sells its bread at select farmers’ markets.

Sweets By Belen

Sweets By Belen is a women-owned Peruvian and Latin-inspired bakery that creates high-quality made-from-scratch desserts using tropical fruits and ingredients. The menu offers many traditional and exotic treats, such as Dulce de Leche rolls, Torta Helada, Tres Leches, fruit tarts, sandwich cookies, macaroons, and more.

In Southwest Houston, Sweets By Belen is open Monday-Friday, 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Saturday-Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The restaurant accepts credit cards and delivers via Grubhub.

As the holiday approaches, you’ll want to stock up on all your Christmas cookie favorites. You’ll have no trouble finding a festive treat at these eight bakeries in Houston, whether you’re looking for an Alfajores Cookie smothered with Dulce de Leche or a Chocolate Mint Cookie from Sinfull Bakery. You’ll also be sure to have a sweet tooth on your hands as the candied smells of gingerbread cookies, vanilla cakes, and pecan pies waft through the air.

Sinful Bakery

Sinful Bakery, founded in 2009, is Houston’s first 100% vegan bakery. They offer a wide range of sweet treats, including bars, cookies, soft granola, and several delicious-looking desserts in the form of cakes and muffins. They also sell several unique occasion offerings that will impress, like a giant cinnamon roll birthday cake that can feed up to 35 people.

They also have a cafe attached to the bakery that serves breakfast sandwiches and tapas, among other things. Their best-known product is the kolache, a cookie stuffed with various fillings and baked into a round loaf. The menu also includes coffee concoctions that please even the most discerning caffeine fiend.

They have one of the largest selections of all-natural, organic, and kosher ingredients in town, making them a prime choice for those seeking healthy options. They also have an extensive menu of vegan and gluten-free dishes, from breakfast to dinner.
